Ricardo Larraín

Biography

Ricardo Larraín was a Chilean film editor and director. His 1991 film "The Frontier" won the Silver Bear for an outstanding single achievement at the 42nd Berlin International Film Festival. In addition to producing and directing several films and documentaries, he served as executive producer on the TV-series "Piel canela", and as director and editor of the miniseries "Héroes" and produced more than eight hundred commercials for Chilean and foreign markets. In 2001 he oversaw the drama department of the academic TV channel "Corporación de Televisión de la Universidad Católica" and worked as a teacher at a journalism school. In 2004 he founded the Chilean Director and Screenwriter association and in 2006 he founded the film department in Chile's biggest university. Larraín died in March 2016 from cancer. He was 58.
